We moved!

As some of you know, we initial planned to move to Minnesota and then we had an opportunity to buy a house a few blocks away from my mother-in-law and jumped made it happen!

So, no Minnesota means more virtual work for my spouse and more family nearby, which is fantastic.

Most of you interact with us virtually and we wanted you update you on this again in case you missed it!


While we were finally settling in to the new home and school, it somehow became September.

True to past years, I'm seeing the seasonal bump in coaching and resume requests. 

As you're working with clients on their resumes, here are a few trends to consider (you can get more details on these from my live stream last week using the link below):

- Focus on profitability. Companies are more focused on the bottom line and company valuations are emphasizing profitability. For resume clients, this means making sure we are highlighting bottom-line and efficiency contributions in addition to revenue growth. If they are involved in handling supply chain issues in their current job, make sure to highlight that.

- Focus on emotional intelligence (minus the adjectives). Talk about "soft skills" being more important in resumes has been happening for the last few years. This has pivoted slightly to focus on communication skills in a virtual world, DEI awareness, and self-management skills as employers look to reduce turnover. These statements are strongest when wrapped into an accomplishment bullet to demonstrate and show value instead of getting carried away with adjectives.

- Shorter? There was a movement coming out of Silicon Valley in the last 18 months for shorter resumes. Typically the push for one-page resumes comes from recruiters who hire entry-level positions. The recent movement was not too different as these companies tend to value youth and energy for many roles. If you have an experienced candidate applying for a role where experience is expected, two pages is still preferred.
