Have you ever noticed how a child’s energy is contagious? I love to watch my boys at play... how they seem to live everything out loud.
Unfortunately, many things about kids are contagious … including all the little bugs they bring home. Thank you to those of you who have sent kind words as my son had mild COVID symptoms and I continue to deal with fatigue from my own breakthrough case! But it did get me thinking about the wonder in our childhood approach to life and how we as adults can recover our ability to live a little bit more out loud. |

Years ago, I had the opportunity to coach within a leadership program at a local municipality. At the end, the participants gave a presentation. One student had designed graphical caricatures of his classmates highlighting the individual strengths and desires they had shared in class. His message was that he had learned it was OK for each of them to be themselves – and perhaps this was one trait of a strong leader. That it was more powerful to be himself at work. To live out loud. That energy was contagious and attracted opportunities.
While not every workplace is safe for every client to do this, from what I have experienced myself, seen clients experience, and witnessed with colleagues in their careers and business, this idea does hold true. It is hard to be successful when we don’t know our authentic self. It is impossible to find long-term happiness and career growth when we are trying to be someone else or unclear about our values, goals, strengths, and the value we bring to the table. The discovery of self and understanding how our uniqueness adds value is why I’m so passionate about the personal branding process. It takes time and work to uncover these truths about ourselves and build our confidence in living them … something I’m still working on myself. Perhaps the greatest gift of this program for me will be helping my kids understand this earlier in life. Are you looking for transformational tools to give this give to you and your clients?
