The concept of Personal Branding has been in my DNA since I was a teenager. I’ve always been fascinated by individual talents and seeing how those talents come together to serve the collective whole.
As Yearbook Editor for my high school yearbook, I chose the theme – “The Individual in the Crowd.” The cover of the yearbook was a gumball machine filled with blue gumballs and one white gumball. I thought of myself as the one that was different but it took me years to figure out what to do with that difference. The yearbook was creative, unique, and focused on the individual standing out in the collective whole. Those themes continue with me today.

When I discovered the concept of Personal Branding, I became an enthusiastic supporter. As a Career Counselor I had been frustrated that we did such good work when people were looking for employment or launching their careers but the business world didn’t seem to recognize the need for it. Personal Branding gave business language to a process that opened doors for our work in the world. Now people at all levels are finding Personal Branding valuable for managing and advancing their careers. I love that I now have a process to help others discover and own their uniqueness. The Personal Branding process is a practical roadmap to take that uniqueness out into the world. Done well, Personal Branding is a strategic process of building a positive set of experiences in the direction the client wants to go.
