I dreamed of a flood of prospects after my first speaking engagement … and was pleasantly surprised when many people did request initial consultations!
(BONUS: How did I get these signups? Check out our session on Speaking to Build Your Credibility & Visibility and one on How to Generate Leads as a Podcast Guest. These will be available soon in the vault for CIA members!).
But I realized quickly that this group had largely a Do It Yourself (DIY) culture and very few prospects converted.
I experimented with other groups and tried to get a feel for how much time and effort I would put into engagements, while being careful not to judge too quickly.
A group of us have recently started hosting a Monday night room on Clubhouse on Job Search Secrets.
It was slow-growing at first. Small rooms, but good questions and seemingly good connections.
After a few months now we are consistently attracting people to our rooms and our speakers are reporting a handful – or more – of prospects contacting them after the rooms.
What unexpected venues have you found to connect with your target audience?
If you would have interest in joining us as a speaker on Clubhouse, reply and let me know! Preference is given to CTL Associates, CIA members, or graduates from CTL or RWA programs, and we’re happy to put your name on the list.
CTL and RWA community members are also always welcome to join me on Career Confidante radio with more than 100,000 downloads each year. You can learn more about that opportunity here.
Free advertising isn’t really free (always factor in your time), and, it can be worth a try if you use these opportunities to connect with your target audience and are mindful of maximizing your ROI.
Please reply and let me know if you have interest or questions about how to take advantage of Clubhouse, Career Confidante radio, or any other ideas you have for how we might work together to build your visibility!
