A few of you responded to my post on LinkedIn sharing how we are finally in our house in *Colorado* following a 3+ month marathon of house selling, couch-surfing, and, finally, moving in! Many of our clients might be choosing their job or career change right now. But that doesn't mean it's easy. Even that dream job or promotion has its challenges. This may be even more true when we hold high (and perhaps unrealistic) views of the end goal. I'm pretty realistic about the pros and cons of living 5 blocks from my mother-in-law, but wasn't expecting 15 hours on the phone/in the store over the last week just to get internet and phone in the new house! |

The truth? Even though I tend to be more change-ready than many, when it comes right down to it, it is hard to do!
Help your clients process the tough aspects of change -- when they unexpectedly accompany a chosen change or an un-chosen one like a layoff.
One of the "principles" of change is that we tend to isolate. To suffer in silence. To try to do it all alone.
But we know that isolating makes the challenges of change worse. Our clients need to connect with their network. Not just because it is good for their job search, but because it is good for their mental health!
Likewise, we need to connect to our support systems ourselves during these times. Regardless of the realities of recession, talk of it will mean heightened challenges for many of our clients, for our work, and for our businesses.
