I don't know about you, but I've learned so much this year and been challenged in my thinking around so many things. A year ago, I had never heard of Juneteenth. I'd never heard of Black Wall Street. Although I knew the impact of bias, I wasn't consistently recognizing the power of cultural experiences in my work with clients. |
|
|
When we know better, we do better. I'm still working on this personally and for our organization.
A few weeks ago, I shared a brilliant article from Sandra Buatti-Ramos and wanted to highlight it again and especially the questions she poses at the end of the article (slightly edited here to apply to the scope of diversity we honor in our colleagues and clients):
- What can we do to support those who are marginalized in the workplace and beyond?
- How do we address friends, family, employers, and colleagues who fail to meet others with respect?
- How are we educating ourselves and our colleagues to be more effective in ensuring equity in employment and in our profession at large?
There's still so much work for me to do personally on these issues and I have enjoyed all the conversations with colleagues on these topics (even the challenging ones!). I look forward to continuing the conversations and growth toward a profession and a world where everyone can feel like they belong.
