Issue 385 | February 3, 2022

“Other people may be there to help us, teach us, guide us along our path, but the lesson to be learned is always ours.” – Melody Beattie, American self-help author

With February being Black History Month, we have more opportunity to explore history that is often not told, celebrate accomplishments past and present, and recommit to standing up for equity.

Unfortunately, we are also seeing increased violence and threat of violence specifically toward historically black colleges and universities.

It has me asking myself, what am I doing to educate myself this month? What meaningful actions can I take in my community and globally to advocate and continue the conversation around equality?

It's likely your favorite platform, be it LinkedIn Learning, Netflix, or Masterclass, has put together resources for you if you are exploring these questions for yourself this month.

If you are on a college campus, you may have resources at your fingertips, and I'll still share this session from a year ago on supporting students of color.

I'll also be going back to watch this video interview with Michelle Carroll, CTL Board Member, around supporting our Black colleagues right now.

And continuing CTL's ongoing work to build cultural competence and open doors to conversations using questions like those Abby Locke shares in this video.

I'd love to hear from you and share anything you would offer to our community throughout this month.

FEB 16 | Resume & Profile Master-E-Session: Strategies for Gigs, Side Hustles, Freelancing & More

The independent workforce grew 34% last year, and many of our clients are trying to revamp their resumes with several consulting gigs, a side hustle, or short-term jobs.

How can they pull the pieces together to tell a powerful story?

Where should they put that side gig or new business they’ve started?

If you are working with clients who are asking these questions, this session is for you!

Jan Melnik and Marie Zimenoff will go through strategies to create strong positioning and branding for these clients, craft cohesive stories through their collective experiences, and guide their launch through job search strategies.

As with all our writing Master-E-Sessions, you’ll walk away with strategies and a packet of samples to get inspiration for your next client.

All who register get access to the live session, recording, and handout.

APR 11 | CTL Annual Symposium - Meet Our Speakers!

Join us for 3 days in person  to learn, connect, and get to know other leaders in the career services industry!

The CTL leadership team is known for putting together a leading-edge curriculum for all our events, and the annual professional development symposium always brings the best minds together for you to learn from.

Do you want to get the latest information, but hate when you feel like you didn't apply anything you learned? Us, too!

Even before it was cool, we were creating unique spaces for professionals to share their expertise. We know adults learn by sharing, questioning, and integrating information. We work with our presenters to make sure each presentation gives you not only the latest information but time and space to share, integrate, and make that information actionable.

Read more about Kymberli’s presentation below. She’s going to give us new tools for networking and make sure we get the most out of the relationship opportunities at the event!

Will it be recorded or simulcasted? Not this event...

While we do extensive virtual training throughout the year (for 15+ years running), we also know the power of focus that comes with attending a live, in-person event. That is why we are so excited to bring this back...safely! Please see our COVID protocols (and city of Philadelphia mandates) here. One of the points people loved about our virtual event in 2021 was the transcripts, so we will be audio recording and providing transcripts ONLY FOR ATTENDEES so you can get more value from your attendance.

Can't attend live last minute? Don't worry. We have options ready to go for you to get the value from your investment.

Here's a little taste of what you can expect from our presenter Kymberli Speight.
