Highlights of the Thursday Presentations
On Thursday, April 20, we'll hear from career thought leaders and recruiters on topics including personal branding, job search, resume writing, leadership development, and career advancement with short trend presentations and colleague discussions. Speakers include Susan Chritton, Kimberly Schneiderman, Marie Zimenoff, Eleanor Bedford, Leonard Baker, and more!
Leonard Baker is a contract recruiter who has worked with tech giants (Sony, Lockheed, Cisco, Dolby) and Silicon Valley startups (GoPro, Pinger). He has seen the HR technology evolution and its inclusion in the hiring process for a diverse set of companies. As a recruiter, he's connected with thousands of job seekers, getting a first-hand seat to what works and what doesn't. He will share about HR technology and his networking approach – with great tips and scripts for how our candidates approach job search!
Susan Chritton is a Master Personal Brand Strategist, Executive Career Coach, and CTL Personal Brand Certification Trainer. She will be sharing how to build trust virtually – a critical skill for leaders to advance in their careers, job seekers to excel in virtual interviews, and career professionals to build their visibility and business. She'll provide tools you can use immediately to elevate your brand and the career trajectory of each candidate you encounter.
Eleanor Bedford is a leadership development consultant who specializes in helping leaders excel through crises and conflict. In this timely presentation, she will share coaching trends that are emerging as leaders face more complexity and uncertainty in the workplace and the world around them. She will also share a few tools coaches can use to boost clients' resiliency and ability to manage change.
From the round table discussions with thought leaders to the evening events, the CTL Conference will be brimming with opportunities to network with your colleagues, meet new referral partners, share success secrets and more!
We are bringing back the much-anticipated Harbor Spirit Dinner Cruise! Highlights of the evening include a delicious dinner buffet and non-alcoholic beverages along with a complimentary glass of wine or beer included with your ticket purchase, plus availability of cocktails and other beverages via a full cash bar. You can purchase a cruise ticket when you register for the conference or separately.
Be on the Lookout: Watch for emails from CTL with invitations for various writing, coaching, media, and publishing opportunities. Emails go out to all CTL Associates several times each month, so be sure to check them out!
Personal Branding:Take Your Personal Brand Into the World (Susan Chritton on LinkedIn) As usual, Susan offers great practical advice for getting up the courage you need to own your personal brand. "Don't say yes just to agree" is one of my favorites. Susan will be sharing about how you can build your brand in a virtual world at the CTL Conference next month!
Resumes:How to Extract Your Key Differentiators (Career Confidante Radio) Resume experts Jan Melnik and Marie Zimenoff share strategies for candidates to "toot their own horn" and distinguish themselves in their line of work. Jan will be leading two professional development institutes on resume writing at the conference – one on young professional resumes with Catharine Craig, and one on executive resumes with Marie.
Social Recruiting:LinkedIn is Locked In, You're Locked Out (Shally Steckerl on LinkedIn) It is so important for career professionals to be aware of how recruiters are using social media to recruit. LinkedIn's constant changes can make that nearly impossible. Here's one revealing reaction from a leading social recruiter (who happens to be speaking at the CTL conference!).
Interviewing:Pro Football's Intrusive and Mandatory Interview (The Spokesman-Review) Illegal questions during an interview usually address issues like age or parental status. This article talks about "hiring" practices in the NFL that very few professionals in the business world would put up with.
In this CTL Associate Call, our CTL Board will be leading a discussion about the challenges and opportunities faced by those entering "un-retirement." The call is open to all CTL Associates and is a way to help you stay current, learn some new tricks, and share some of your own wealth of information. Take a break from your spring cleaning and dial in! You MUST be an Associate to participate.
