CTL Welcomes Reach Certified Personal Brand Community
We are delighted to welcome the Reach Personal Branding certification community to the CTL tribe!
Personal branding is a critical component to job search, career management, and leadership development today. Welcoming the Reach certified professionals into the CTL community will create more valuable opportunities for growing your knowledge and practice.
If you are not familiar with it, the Reach personal branding process, developed by William Arruda, has been proven with thousands of executives and entrepreneurs around the world.
We hope you will take advantage of events we'll be holding in the next few weeks to introduce you to the personal branding process. This will include upcoming webinars with branding experts William Arruda, Deb Dib, and Susan Chritton.
We will also be welcoming Reach certified professionals at the CTL conference in Baltimore. We wanted to offer the early registration price for them, and I hate when people do things for new customers and not their loyal customers, so you can take advantage of the early registration price until February 15 as well! Learn more.
The CTL Board and I are excited about this transition and the richness personal branding can bring to your practice – from graduating students differentiating themselves in the marketplace to executives building a distinctive leadership brand.
Please be on the lookout for more important information about this transition.

Dinner, Dancing & Difference-Making at the CTL Conference
Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor April 18–20, 2017 Learn More
As career services providers, coaches, and resume writers, we often wonder what a hiring manager looks for in an interview, what a recruiter wants in a resume, or what our candidate can do to earn a promotion.
The CTL Conference April 18–20 in Baltimore, Maryland, will be an opportunity for career professionals to learn from recruiters, hiring managers, and talent development professionals – the people who have a direct impact on our candidate's job search and career advancement goals!
What is different about the CTL Conference?
The Career Thought Leaders board hand-picks presenters for the CTL Conferences. We search high and low to find experts we know will bring unprecedented value for your investment. We talk about trends, and we also ensure speakers provide practical tools you can use to help your candidates as soon as you return home – rejuvenated, up-to-date, and ready to be even more effective!
Who are the key experts for the 2017 Conference?
On Wednesday, April 19, recruiters Martin Burns and Shally Steckerl will speak about trends in recruiting, social media sourcing, and how candidates can use social media to connect with recruiters during their search. You will also have an opportunity to hear from a panel of hiring professionals and connect with your career colleagues on practitioner trends.
Martin Burns is Strategic Consulting Leader for HireClix, a consumer advertising agency with a focus on recruitment. A long-time practitioner and corporate recruiting leader, he combines significant expertise in strategy, technology, and marketing. His career has included leading, as well as consulting with, recruitment for some of the world's most significant brands. Before making the move to HireClix, he led talent acquisition technology transformation for PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers). Prior to PwC, he led global recruitment for Mobiquity, a mobile services firm with offices on 4 continents.
Shally Steckerl is a pioneer in talent sourcing. He builds enterprise recruiting engines for Fortune 500 brands to help them find unfindable talent. Shally is sought out by these companies to teach them how to source talent in innovative ways. His background includes serving as a talent sourcing advisor and trainer for Johnson Controls, Akamai Technologies, Netflix, GE, Starwood Hotels, and many more. He was also an internal corporate recruiter for Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc., Motorola, and others before becoming a consultant.

Speakers include Susan Chritton, Kimberly Schneiderman, Deb Dib, Marie Zimenoff, Leonard Baker, and more!
Leonard Baker is a contract recruiter who has worked with tech giants (Sony, Lockheed, Cisco, Dolby) and Silicon Valley startups (GoPro, Pinger). He uses his "engineering gene" to connect with his recruits and his entrepreneurial business sense to become a trusted advisor for hiring teams. He has seen the HR technology evolution and its inclusion in the hiring process for a diverse set of companies. As a recruiter, he's connected with thousands of job seekers, getting a first-hand seat to what works and what doesn't.

Leadership:When It Comes to Decision Making at Work, You're (Mostly) No Tom Brady (Forbes) Sports nut that I am, I couldn't pass up the chance to share an article related to the big game coming up this weekend (a good read even if you have no interest in the NFL). The gist? How to you know when you have enough experience to know what you're doing, and when you don't.
Recruiter Perspective:Even LinkedIn Doesn't Use LinkedIn for Tech Recruiting (Recruiting Daily) There's been noise in the recruiting community for a while about the ineffectiveness of LinkedIn for recruiting. Reading past the sarcasm in this post, you can see this recruiter's frustration with the platform is growing. I can't wait to hear what our recruiters have to say about this during the CTL Conference!
Job Trends:The Top 25 Companies That Will Let You Work From Home (CNBC) According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (who will also be joining us at the CTL Conference), about 25% of employees did at least some of their work from home in 2015. The data in this article comes from FlexJobs and their annual list of companies with the most postings for "remote-friendly" jobs.
