CAREER TRENDS HAPPY HOUR
It has been one year since Wendy Enelow, founder of Career Thought Leaders, announced my purchase of Career Thought Leaders (CTL) and Resume Writing Academy (RWA)! If you haven’t had the chance, I would love to meet you and encourage you to reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or on LinkedIn.
It is hard to believe it has been a year, and I wanted thank all of you who have supported the organizations and provide you with an update of the now, the new, and the next for CTL and RWA. Events Career Thought Leader Conference The Career Thought Leaders Conference is coming up in just a few weeks! As part of the evolution for CTL, the conference will be on a three-year rotation. This year, the conference will be our traditional three-day format, one day focused on coaching, one on business, and one on writing. There are not virtual attendance options, as our focus will be on an interactive learning experience.
In April 2017, the conference will be back on the East Coast focusing on trends in industry and hiring, with less focus on the practitioner skill set (coaching or writing). In 2018, we will be in Europe! This is extremely exciting as CTL has become increasingly international in membership. Reserve April 2018 on your calendar now and start saving for a trip to connect with your career colleagues from across the globe. Then, in 2019, for those of you who like to plan that far ahead, we’ll be back in Denver for the traditional three-day event.
Career Jam: Where Experts Forecast The New & The Next (formerly Career Brainstorming Day) In addition to these changes for the conference, the CTL Board led an effort to refresh the name and increased resources to one of the favorite events – Career Brainstorming Day. We held our first Career Jam in November, 2015, including the first virtual event for Europe! The white paper with the findings of that event will be out in the next few weeks. Career Jam 2016 will be December 9, 2016. Let us know if you'd like to host a location!
NEW Master-E-Sessions Similar to Resume Writing Academy E-Summits, these are web-based training that you can join live or listen to the recording with handouts packed full of resources and tools. These programs build mastery in core competencies for careers industry professionals – career coaching, business development, career services operations, job search strategy, interview coaching, public speaking, and much more. Our first Master-E-Session, “Pricing & Packaging Your Career Services” earned rave reviews. You can purchase the recording and handout in our new resource shop.
Resume Writing Academy Resume & Profile E:Summits In 2015, we held E-Summits covering Executive Resumes, LinkedIn Profiles, Graduating Student Resumes, and Technical & Engineering Resumes & Profiles. You can access all E-Summits recorded 2015 and earlier here. Moving forward, all E-Summits will cover LinkedIn profile and resume writing, as we know the importance of this medium in career management and job search success. If you missed the latest E-Summit, “ATS & SEO: Navigation Alphabet Soup to Get Clients Found,” you can purchase the recording and handouts in the resource shop.
Resources The CTL website is such a wealth of information! We are still in the process of organizing all of these resources on the new website so you can access them easily. We have opened a Resource Shop where you’ll find previously recorded Master-E-Sessions and E-Summits, as well as special reports and eBooks – including our new Executive Resume eBook. Soon, you’ll see a “Resources” page as a menu option under “Career Pro” on the site, and that is where you will have access to categorized blogs and more free resources.
The new Career Trends Happy Hour provides the latest career trends articles weekly and are archived for free access on the site. We look forward to your suggestions of other resources we can add!
Industry Visibility & Consumer Education Part of the mission of Career Thought Leaders is to build the credibility of the careers industry in the global marketplace. As we finalize getting the resources easily available and searchable for job seekers on the site, we will also be increasing our use of social media and other means to continue this mission. We’ve expanded the consumer education on the site and will continue to do so. Benefits for Career Thought Leader Associates We are dedicated to provide resources freely to all careers industry professionals. And we also want to increase benefits for those who have committed to being thought leaders by becoming CTL Associates. The Associate directory has been made more visible on the site so Associates can be found by job seekers and colleagues. Associates also benefit from discounts to the new Master-E-Sessions with continued discounts to the conference and Career Jam, discounts on CTL certifications, and access to additional opportunities and resources. What’s Next? We have four more Master-E-Sessions on the calendar for this year and look forward to your ideas for topics next year! We will continue to add resources to the CTL website and will be rolling out a new RWA website soon. RWA will also be rolling out new training opportunities in addition the planned E-Summits … so stay tuned!
I’ll be presenting at the Association for Talent Development conference in May on corporate career development programs; the National Workforce Development Association conference in May on resumes and credentials; the National Career Development Association conference in June on building your business and using LinkedIn; and most likely at The National Resume Writers’ Association conference in September.
If you are attending any of these events, please let me know to look for you there!
Thank you again to all of you who have supported CTL and RWA during this transition and we do look forward to hearing from you so we can continue to offer resources, training, and opportunity that increase the visibility and credibility of the industry.
