Chandlee Bryan

Over the past year, there’s been a revolution in job search—the process of applying for jobs has been fundamentally transformed. I’ve heard it said that it took 38 years for radio to reach an audience of 50 million; Facebook accomplished the same in 24 months—and now has over 300 million users. According to ExecuNet, over 86% of recruiters now conduct background Internet research on candidates. Like it or not, you should expect to be Googled. It’s important to know how you’ll be found and to control what others see. I’m passionate about helping job seekers navigate this new landscape—from monitoring and assessing online identity to developing a strong presence across platforms.

I am a career strategy advisor, emerging author, and social media evangelist. I am reticent to be called a social media “expert” because I feel that social media expertise is community driven and that collaboration creates expertise. As a result, I actively facilitate dialogue and discussion in my work, seeking always to “ask many questions before developing answers.”

In addition to my private practice, I reach a wide audience of job seekers through my work as the community organizer and facilitator for the NYC MeetUp.com Job Seekers group, with a membership of more than 800. I also founded the Twitter group Many Career Minds (hash tag #mcm) and see endless potential for social media in job search.

In my practice I specialize in coaching emerging professionals in personal branding, resume writing, job search strategy, and the ever-evolving rules of social media. In addition, I am a consultant to university career centers and corporate clients and served as Microsoft’s “Resume Specialist” for the recent Office Live “My Resume Talks” campaign.

Prior to founding my private practice, I worked in Ivy League career management offices for eight years at Penn, Dartmouth, and Columbia University, serving as Dartmouth College’s Director of Career Services for the Thayer School of Engineering. I’ve also worked on the other side of the desk—before moving to New York, I worked as the director of recruiting for a biomedical software company.

My professional designations and distinctions include:

  • Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW)
  • Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Counseling from the University of Virginia
  • Model of Excellence Award Winner, University of Pennsylvania, 2001 (Received with colleagues in recognition of strategies for client service delivery)
  • Student Employer of the Year Award, Dartmouth College, 2006 (Received for mentoring students in Federal Work-Study Program)
