Barbara SafaniLong before anyone had ever heard the term social media, I was trying to figure out ways to stay connected to friends and colleagues as I moved through my life journey. Phone calls, letters, and holiday cards were the methods I used to stay in touch, but when the Internet was born, I knew the possibilities for staying connected would increase exponentially. Once LinkedIn arrived on the scene, I knew I had hit the jackpot and I began searching for old colleagues and friends, many who I had not seen or heard from in over a decade. On New Year’s Day, 2008, I made a resolution to dig deeper and find more friends and colleagues from the past. I chose Facebook as my core social media sleuthing strategy and two years later I have rekindled friendships that have changed my life.

It was obvious to me that the power of social media could be leveraged to change the lives of job seekers as well. I was determined to learn as much as I could about all social media sites so I could help my clients optimize their networking hours and land faster. Today, I incorporate social media into all my client coaching packages and truly believe that a resume is naked without a corresponding social media strategy.

I was among the first people in the careers industry to create a comprehensive social media product offering for job seekers and I continue to be a resource to the careers community on all things pertaining to online identity and social media for job seekers.
